Schools Poster presented at Middlemore Science Fest

A poster describing the DIY schools programme was taken to the Middlemore Sciencefest, held at the Vodafone events centre, by Karen Pickering, Kate Smallman, Lama Saga and Rachel Rix-Trott.   This programme has been delivered into 4 secondary schools for the last 4 years with funding from CMDHB, and to make it sustainable a DIY kit was designed with help from funding from MOH.    It has been tested successfully and now in 9 schools, and been used as the basis for the Diabetes...

RIP Dr David Scott - Leading figure in Diabetes passes away

A key figure in the New Zealand diabetes scene, Dr David Scott, passed away in March 2007 at the age of 77.   Christchurch born, Dr Scott's chosen profession of medicine started at Otago Medical school, and he had further education and experience in Europe, the US and Australia. Publication - DCSS - Ethnic Differences in Type 2 diabetes care and outcomes

This Paper published in NZ Medical Journal by Tom Robinson from DCSS data available at the time.   Māori and Pacific people with diabetes who attend a regular GP had a higher average number of consultations than Europeans and were likely as Europeans to have undergone important regular examinations and investigations. Award for "Stay in Touch" video

Diabetes Projects Trust's 2003 short educational film for teens, "Stay in Touch', has received a "certificate of creative excellence" at the US International Film and Video Festival.   The video tells the story of a 13 year old Sam whose body has just had enough of his lifestyle and decides to tell him all about it by sending him text messages. Publication - Passport Study
