NZSSD Conference 2025 - Kirikiriroa Hamilton

We had an excellent conference trip to Kirikiriroa Hamilton, thanks to the Diabetes Foundation Aotearoa Board of Trustees for supporting the trip away  and to NZSSD for help with travel costs.   For our small organisation we were very pleased to have 4 abstracts accepted and play our usual active part over the event.  See specific blog entries for detail of abstracts/posters/presentations, but in summary, Kate Smallman presented case studies on the newly closed Youth Bariatric project, hard to imagine that has been going for nearly 5 years now.   Karen Pickering presented an oral poster on behalf of our Patron Prof David Simmons on data from the ongoing DCSS analysis, this on the very important topic of disparities in outcomes for the elderly in relation to deprivation and ethnicity.  Karen also presented an oral poster on the community gardens programme, Gardens4Health which covered an update on what has changed after over 15 years in the community.   Kanchana Perera presented on more of her research as part of her PhD.    It was a great opportunity to catch up with people from round the country and hear about all the amazing mahi that continues to go on behind the scenes, and thanks in particular to Board member Ruby McGill for her support and participation.
